Windows Timeline Support is a Google Chrome extension that expands the Windows 10 Timeline feature beyond Microsoft Edge, technically allowing Google users to have their browsing sessions saved as well.

And while it was the first flawless implementation that allowed more users to experience Windows Timeline, especially considering Google’s Chrome share on the desktop, the extension was pulled earlier this month due to a trademark violation.

Developer Dominic Maas revealed on Twitter that the extension was removed because it infringed on the Windows trademark, simply because it was using the term Windows in its name.

“I got a take down request because the extension has "Window s" in the title. Working on fixing it,” he said in an August 1 tweet.

New name pending review

The developer also revealed that he already changed the extension’s name and resubmitted it to the store, but for the time being, it’s still pending review. This means that sooner or later, it should become available for download once again, as no trademark violation should happen under the new name.

Windows Timeline is a new feature available in Windows 10 April 2018 Update that creates snapshots of user activities, including browsing sessions, running apps, and documents, allowing them to restore a specific entry at any point within the next 30 days.

For the time being, however, Timeline still comes with a series of limitations impacting usability, such as the exclusive support for Microsoft Edge browser. With this extension, Timeline is basically expanded to work with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox as well, which are currently the world’s top browsers on the desktop.

According to third-party data, Google Chrome has more than 60 percent share on the desktop, while Firefox is the runner-up with a little over 9 percent. Microsoft Edge is very far behind with approximately 4 percent share.
