Sun Valley is the big Windows update due in the fall

Microsoft will be holding a dedicated Windows event on June 24, and while the company itself has remained completely tight-lipped on what’s supposed to be announced at the show, we already know there’s something big coming on the Windows front.

In theory, the June 24 event could witness the first public preview of the upcoming Windows 10 version 21H2 feature update due in September and currently codenamed Sun Valley. People familiar with the matter said on several occasions that Sun Valley is projected to be a massive update that will include improvements in all key areas, such as features and the user interface.

But on the other hand, just when everybody expected this massive update to land as a new Windows 10 update, Microsoft started dropping hints that the upcoming release could actually be a separate Windows version that may end up being called Windows 11.

Windows 11 codenamed Sun Valley?

Needless to say, everything is still in the rumor stage, but a recent Microsoft document suggests that at least the Sun Valley moniker is real.

Spotted by WL, the document refers to Windows Sun Valley as a separate operating system from Windows 10, so at the end of the day, this could be the codename that Microsoft could use for Windows 11. As a result, Windows 11 could land in the fall of the year as a standalone operating system and internally referred to as Sun Valley.

Of course, this could very well be just wishful thinking, but it’s pretty clear Microsoft is preparing something big in terms of Windows updates, and the June 24 event will definitely be worth watching.

But in the meantime, all these hints seem to suggest that the next-generation Windows isn’t Windows 10, but a completely new version that could continue the legacy of the world’s number one desktop operating system.
