Lumia 950 XL now turned into a portable gaming device

Windows phones are pretty much dead, and it’s all just a matter of time until Microsoft pulls support for Windows 10 Mobile entirely, but in the user community, both devices and the operating system would live on for a little longer.

Living proof is this video published by YouTuber Wall SoGB, who managed to get Windows 10 on ARM up and running on a Lumia 950 XL.

And what’s more, not only that the operating system appears to be running (more or less flawlessly) on the device, but the Lumia 950 XL can even be used to play some classics, including the original Fallout game.

The whole magic was possible thanks to a series of tools that allowed the Lumia 950 XL software to be altered, and you can find the full list in the description of the video if you want to try it out yourselves.

However, it’s worth keeping in mind that this isn’t something you can do without some computer knowledge, so I recommend you to read as much as possible online before actually beginning the porting job.

Of course, don’t imagine that the Lumia 950 XL can replace a portable gaming console, but once again, this project shows just how much potential this platform had if Microsoft decided a different future.

Microsoft’s mobile efforts are all about Android and iOS now, and the most hardcore Windows phone fans are putting all their hopes in the Surface Phone project.

While there’s basically no chance Microsoft ever releases a new phone running its own mobile operating system, it’s believed that the Surface Phone evolved to become Surface Andromeda, a completely new device has little in common with phones and which could run full Windows 10.

Andromeda might use a dual-screen design and support multiple form factors, though according to people familiar with the matter, Microsoft is still working on this device and may not even launch it at all if something goes wrong.
