Microsoft has released an update for the Calculator app in Windows 11, and just as expected, this small redesign brings the app in line with the rest of the operating system.

Calculator now comes with a dark mode, and of course, it now aligns with the look of Windows 11, which also features a similar visual style. Microsoft explains the Calculator has been rewritten in C#, and the company encourages users to contribute with their own ideas on GitHub.

As you can see in the screenshots here, the Calculator app hasn’t changed much for Windows 11, so it features the same familiar UI for long-time Windows users.

Rich feature lineup

The same for the feature lineup, though the Calculator has evolved to allow for more operations in the same simple and straightforward interface.

Microsoft highlights some of the capabilities available in the Calculator app, including on Windows 11:

  • Simple and easy to use standard calculator for all the basics, and a powerful scientific calculator for more complex math.
  • Programmer Mode offers rich functionality that is essential for programming and engineering.
  • Plot one or more equations in graphing mode and then analyze the graph to help identify key graph features, like the x- and y- intercepts.
  • Convert between more than 100 different units and currencies.

The new Calculator app for Windows 11 is part of the latest build shipped to Windows Insiders in the both the Dev and the Beta channels.

And of course, it’ll be included in the stable version of the OS, which according to all the evidence so far, it’s projected to go live in October. You can, however, try out Windows 11 and the new Calculator app by joining the Windows Insider program today, though keep in mind this is unreleased software.
