The feature is already baked into the latest Dev build

Microsoft is experimenting with lots of new features for Windows 11, and one of the ideas that the company seems to be planning to test as part of the Insider program concerns the Task Manager.

As discovered by Deskmodder (via PhantomOcean3 on reddit), Microsoft has quietly integrated a search feature for Task Manager in Windows 11 build 25231 for the Dev channel.

The feature isn’t enabled by default and must be activated with Vivetool, but for the time being, it doesn’t seem to be ready for public testing in the first place.

The new feature will let users search for a process name, publisher, or PID, and without a doubt, it’ll make finding a specific process much easier.

If you want to enable it in Vivetool, here’s the command you must run:

vivetool /enable /id:39420424

In the meantime, Microsoft is working on further polishing the experience with Task Manager in Windows 11, and one of the most recent improvements is the return of the app to the taskbar context menu.

With the release of Windows 11, the Task Manager has been moved to the Start menu, so now Microsoft is bringing it back to the right-click menu of the taskbar.

“Based on your feedback, we’ve added Task Manager to the context menu when right-clicking on the taskbar. Let us know what you think!” the company said back in September when this feature was first shipped to users in the Dev channel for testing purposes.

Furthermore, Task Manager is now sporting a dark mode, something that aligns its UI with the rest of the operating system. And of course, the search feature will make the app an even more helpful, especially for power users who are typically monitoring the processes running on their devices.
