The latest Dev build comes with a neat trick for the volume

Windows 11 comes with plenty of new features, including a redesigned Start menu and taskbar, widgets, support for Android apps on the desktop, and so much more.

But at the same time, Microsoft has also implemented a ton of other smaller refinements that many could escape unnoticed unless you dig really deep in the operating system.

One such little thing that everybody is going to love is bundled with the latest Dev channel build and was disclosed by Microsoft engineer Jen Gentleman on reddit.

It concerns the volume level on a PC running Windows 11, as the OS introduces a new little way to adjust the audio without even clicking the icon in the system tray.

How to adjust the volume level like a boss

More specifically, what you can do is simply hover the audio icon in the system tray and then use the mouse scroll wheel for the whole thing. In other words, no click is required, as Windows 11 automatically detects that you’re hovering the sound icon and it lets you adjust the volume with a simple scroll.

As some people on reddit explain, there are many ways to improve this behavior, and there’s no doubt Microsoft is listening, especially since the company has already started focusing on such little tricks for Windows 11.

For example, a middle click on the sound icon in the system tray should let us quickly mute the audio – right now, if you middle-click the icon, Windows 11 only launches the volume controlling interface.

Keep in mind, however, that this trick is only bundled with the latest Dev channel build for insiders, but in theory, it’s all just a matter of time until it goes live for all users out there. Most likely, this functionality will be included in the next big update for Windows 11.
