Microsoft says users should stick with the widget

Windows 11 is almost here, but the closer we get to the official launch, the more obvious it becomes that some rather questionable changes would be reverted in the new operating system.

One of them concerns the calendar, which has lost the flyout option that includes agenda information and events added by users.

Instead, everybody must now stick with the widget screen, which is new to Windows 11 and which Microsoft recommends as the go-to place for managing appointments and other calendar entries.

As spotted by WL, Microsoft has confirmed in a Feedback Hub post that for the time being, the previous calendar approach available in Windows 10 and allowing users to see their agenda right in the flyout wouldn’t come back in Windows 11.

Users would just have to stick with the widget, Microsoft explains, and this decision kind of makes sense.

Sticking with the new widgets

By moving essential functionality to the new widgets screen, people can finally try out this feature, therefore making it a more important part of the modern experience in Windows 11. It’s not an easy transition, that’s certain, but on the other hand, it’s mandatory to make the widgets screen a more widely adopted Windows 11 feature.

“Thank you so much for giving us your feedback. While we'll continue to use your feedback to guide the future of features like this, currently on Windows 11, there is a calendar option in the new widgets experience that you can use to quickly see your personal calendar and its events,” Microsoft says.

Windows 11 is projected to be finalized as soon as the next month, with the launch for production devices scheduled to take place in October. It’ll be offered as a free upgrade beginning later this year, with the rollout to continue into 2022 for eligible devices.
