Someone installed Windows 11 on the OnePlus 6T McLaren

Microsoft has already killed off Windows 10 Mobile, but this doesn’t necessarily mean the dream of having a Windows phone is dead as well.

The company’s Surface Duo more or less gets us closer, but given it’s powered by Android, a fully-featured smartphone running Windows still looks like it’ll happen when pigs fly.

And yet, the Windows community out there is doing wonders when it comes to installing Windows on various devices, and most recently, someone on reddit has managed to get the operating system up and running on a OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition.

Windows running on Android devices isn’t something entirely new, as such a thing has been done in the past, but this time, the OS version that’s involved in the project is Windows 11.

And based on the photos shared online, Windows 11 actually fits the mobile screen quite nicely, though it goes without saying you shouldn’t necessarily expect the best performance.

No Android apps

And now, here comes the main question: can you run Android apps on Windows 11?

As it turns out, you can’t, as the processor isn’t supported.

Windows 11 comes with support for Android apps (now available as a public preview for users running the latest stable build in the United States), and the feature is powered by the Amazon Appstore. However, the Android app support comes with a series of its own system requirements, which means not all devices out there are capable of running Android apps on the PC.

So at the end of the day, it looks like you can’t run Android apps on an Android device when Windows 11 is powering the whole experience. Of course, this project is just for the fun of it, as Microsoft’s operating system can’t yet play the role of a fully-featured mobile platform.
