The new OS running pretty well on a Lumia 950 XL

Developer Gustave Monce is one of those who managed to install Windows 10 on an old Lumia 950 XL, and now that Microsoft is working on a new operating system, it was obviously just a matter of time until Windows 11 landed on this Windows phone as well.

A video published on YouTube shows Windows 11 running on a Lumia 950 XL, and as you can see for yourselves, the operating system isn’t necessarily the most responsive, but it’s not a nightmare to use either.

The touch support seems to be fully working, though in some cases, tapping the small icons on the screen isn’t really the easiest thing to do.

But overall, Windows 11 feels like home on the Lumia 950 XL, though it goes without saying this is all just an experiment that wouldn’t breathe new life in this already-abandoned Windows phone.

The last Windows 10 Mobile flagship

Lumia 950 XL was Microsoft’s last Windows 10 Mobile flagship, and many of the features that it introduced were substantially ahead of their time, including Windows Hello biometric authentication.

But the lack of a solid operating system to support its adoption, Lumia 950 XL ended up having the same fate as the entire Microsoft mobile strategy, eventually being abandoned completely.

And while some Lumias are still around these days, they can barely do anything else besides making phone calls and sending and receiving texts, pretty much because the app support has been suspended.

Windows 11 is Microsoft’s ambitious Windows revolution, and while a preview is currently available for users in the Windows Insider program, the final version for production devices is projected to land later this year. No ETA has been provided, but there’s a chance Microsoft launches Windows 11 in October for the first wave of computers.
