Windows 11 has reached broad availability, so in theory, any eligible device can download and install the operating system right now.

As a result, the adoption of Windows 11 is expected to grow, with the latest numbers shared by Steam indeed confirming that at least in the gaming community, the operating system is improving in terms of market share.

However, Windows 11 Is still very far from Windows 10, and it’s hard to believe anything can change in the coming months.

Right now, the 64-bit version of Windows 10 is the leading choice for Steam users, and what’s even worse for Microsoft is that it actually increased its market share last month. Windows 10 64-bit is now running on 73.89 percent, up 0.34 percent from the previous month.

Everything comes down to Windows 10 and Windows 11

Windows 11 is the runner-up, but this time, it’s very far behind. Only 19.59 percent of the devices where Windows 11 is installed are running Windows 11, an increase of 0.65 percent versus April.

Windows 7 64-bit is the third choice with 2.41 percent, obviously with a decline of 0.52 percent from the month before. So right now, when it comes to Windows, only Windows 11 and Windows 10 seem to matter for gamers on Valve’s platform.

As for non-Windows operating systems, both macOS and Linux are very, very far behind. Apple’s platform declined 0.35 percent last month to 2.20 percent, with version 12.3.1 recording an increase of 0.39 percent.

Linux went down 0.02 percent, so it’s now running on 1.12 percent of the devices where Steam is installed.

Of course, Windows 11 is expected to increase its market share in the coming months, but it’ll probably take a very long time before it manages to dethrone Windows 10 and take over the leading spot in the charts.
