Microsoft confirms new fix aimed at Windows 11

Microsoft’s most recent Windows 11 cumulative update, which is available right now for seekers, comes with an important fix that resolves the bug causing some devices to be unable to connect to the Internet with a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The company originally acknowledged the issue earlier this month, explaining that it was caused by another cumulative update, this time KB5014697.

“After installing KB5014697, Windows devices might be unable to use the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. When attempting to use the hotspot feature, the host device might lose the connection to the internet after a client device connects,” Microsoft said at that point.

It goes without saying this was a major glitch, but fortunately, Microsoft also provided a workaround to deal with the whole thing until a full fix was ready.

Microsoft said the only way to restore the Internet access to an impacted device was to disable the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. It goes without saying this wasn’t necessarily the most convenient solution, so some users out there turned to the extreme workaround, which comes down to removing the cumulative update causing the whole thing altogether.

Full fix now available

The good news is that Microsoft has already resolved the whole thing with the release of cumulative update KB5014668. This update is only available on Windows 11 and offered as optional, which means you must manually head over to Windows Update and check for updates to download and install it.

However, updates to resolve the same glitch should go live sooner rather than later for all Windows versions affected by the bug, including here Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and several Windows Server versions.

Most likely, the fix will become available for all these versions of Windows as part of the next Patch Tuesday taking place in July – at that point, all updates will be shipped as automatic releases to Windows users.
