This update is part of the Patch Tuesday cycle

It’s Patch Tuesday, so it’s time for Microsoft to ship new cumulative updates, including for its latest operating system version.

Windows 11 is therefore getting a new cumulative update as well, with KB5013943 increasing the OS build number to 22000.675.

Since it’s a Patch Tuesday release, this cumulative update is mostly focused on security improvements, and Microsoft explains in the official changelog that it also resolves two very important bugs in the operating system.

The first of them concerns .NET Framework 3.5 apps, as some of them have been broken while the second causes a screen flickering glitch in Safe Mode on Windows 11.

“Addresses a known issue that might cause issues for some .NET Framework 3.5 apps or prevent those apps from opening. The affected apps use certain optional components in .NET Framework 3.5, such as Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow (WWF) components,” Microsoft explains.

“Addresses a known issue that might cause your screen to flicker if you start your device in Safe Mode. Components that rely on explorer.exe, such as File Explorer, the Start menu, and the taskbar, might be affected and appear unstable.”

Just one known issue

As far as the known issues are concerned, there are no new bugs in this cumulative update, with Microsoft explaining that the only glitch is related to the backup system.

“After installing the Windows updates released January 11, 2022 or later Windows versions on an affected version of Windows, recovery discs (CD or DVD) created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app in Control Panel might be unable to start. Recovery discs that were created by using the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) app on devices which have installed Windows updates released before January 11, 2022 are not affected by this issue and should start as expected,” Microsoft says.

This bug, however, has been around for quite some time, and Microsoft says it’s already working on a fix.
