New bug confirmed to be hitting Task Manager

Microsoft has recently confirmed that its most recent cumulative update for Windows 11 2022 Update caused issues with Task Manager.

KB5020044 was published earlier this week as a preview update, providing users with early access to the improvements that would become available for everybody as part of the next Patch Tuesday update.

However, the Redmond-based software giant says KB5020044 is also causing issues with Task Manager on Windows 11 version 22H2, as the application would no longer be displayed in the correct visual style.

In other words, part of the UI in Task Manager would no longer be readable, Microsoft says.

“After installing KB5020044, Task Manager might display certain elements in the user interface (UI) in unexpected colors. On affected devices, Task Manager should function as expected but some parts of the UI might not be readable. You might be affected by this issue if you have "Choose your mode" set to "Custom", in the Personalization -> colors section of Settings. If you are using Dark or Light for the "Choose your mode" setting, you should not be affected by this issue,” the company says.

The Redmond-based software giant says users should just enable one of the available visual modes in Task Manager to resolve the issue.

“To mitigate this issue, you can set the "Choose your mode" setting to either Dark or Light until this issue is resolved. To do this, right click or long press on the desktop, select "Personalize", select "Colors", and then select either "Dark" or "Light" for "Choose your mode,” the company explains.

A patch is already in the works, but for the time being, it’s now known when it could be released to users out there. However, given a workaround already exists, it may take a little bit longer for the company to ship it to users.
