New feature update projected to go live in the spring

Microsoft has finally announced Windows 10 version 21H1, and in addition to information on who gets it and how, the company also included some details related to the launch date.

Needless to say, the Redmond-based software giant hasn’t provided us with a specific ETA, which kind of makes sense given version 21H1 is still in the works as we speak, but it did confirm the release is projected to kick off in the first half of the year.

“Our multilayered approach to the development and launch of feature updates continues and includes fully leveraging the Windows Insider Program to obtain user feedback and data insights on quality,” John Cable, Vice President, Program Management, Windows Servicing and Delivery, said.

“We will begin releasing 21H1 builds to Windows Insiders in the Beta channel today to those Insiders who seek to opt in, and new features will be offered in future Windows Insider Preview Builds as they are ready.  Broad availability of Windows 10, version 21H1 will begin later in the first half of this calendar year, and we will provide more information on the release and how to get it as we get closer to the launch of this next feature update. We look forward to hearing your feedback.”

Already available for insiders

This isn’t necessarily something surprising, as Microsoft clearly wants to stick with its original release calendar for Windows 10 feature update. So looking back at the other Windows 10 feature update releases, there’s a chance version 21H1 gets the go-ahead in April or May, with Windows Insiders likely to receive the RTM build one month earlier.

Windows 10 version 21H1 is already available for insiders, though it’ll obviously take a while until Microsoft polishes the overall experience to make sure everything is running as it should.
