Microsoft continues the public rollout of Windows 10 version 2004, or May 2020 Update, but at the same time, the company is also working on the very next feature update for its users.

Called Windows 10 version 20H2, this new release has recently reached a major milestone before general availability is announced, as Microsoft made it available for commercial pre-release validation.

In other words, commercial devices can now run Windows 10 version 20H2 before the new feature update launches later this fall, and this should help Microsoft partners determine if there’s anything to be improved on their side.

“You can access Windows 10, version 20H2 through all standard outlets, including Windows Update, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and Azure Marketplace, or you can download an ISO file. If you manage updates directly from Windows Update, or have devices enrolled in the Beta Channel (previously the Slow ring) or the Release Preview Channel for validation purposes, you don’t need to take any action,” Microsoft explains.

New update coming in the fall

“Windows 10, version 20H2 will be automatically deployed to all commercial devices in the Beta and Release Preview Channels and those who have devices on Windows 10, version 2004 will get to experience the remarkably fast update that comes with moving from version 2004 to version 20H2 via an enablement package.”

Windows 10 version 20H2 won’t bring any major improvements, as the focus this time is on improvements under the hood. This release is very similar to Windows 10 November 2019 Update, or version 1909, which was often described as a little bit more than a service pack, simply because the focus was on under the hood improvements and less on new features.

As per Microsoft’s typical schedule, Windows 10 version 20H2 is projected to be finalized in September and then released to the first wave of production devices in October or November.
