No further updates will be released for this version

This month’s Patch Tuesday cycle brings not only new updates for Windows devices out there, but also the end of life for Windows 10 version 20H2.

In other words, the cumulative updates released today are the last ones this particular Windows 10 version is going to get, and going forward, devices still running it must be updated to a newer release to continue to be serviced with new patches and improvements.

It goes without saying that staying with Windows 10 version 20H2 isn’t by any means a good idea, as any security vulnerabilities that would be discovered will just remain unfixed.

Microsoft: Update your device ASAP

Microsoft too recommends users to switch to a newer version of Windows 10 as soon as possible.

“Windows 10, version 20H2 is at end of service today, May 10, 2022, for devices running the Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions. After May 10, 2022, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that contain protection from the latest security threats. To continue receiving security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows 10 or Windows 11. We will continue to service the following editions: Enterprise, IoT Enterprise, Windows on Surface Hub, and Windows Server, version 20H2,” the company says.

Updating the device to a newer version of Windows 10 is easy, as with Microsoft telling users to stick with the EKB for the whole thing.

“To update to one of the newer versions of Windows 10, we recommend that you use the appropriate Enablement Package KB (EKB). Using the EKB makes updating faster and easier and requires a single restart. To find the EKB for a specific OS, go to the Improvements section and click or tap the OS name to expand the collapsible section,” the company explains.
