Microsoft has updated the official KB article pointing to a new broken update removal feature to state that testing has already started in Windows Insider preview builds and a final version would be shipped in April as part of feature update to version 1903.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Microsoft was working on a new mechanism for dealing with broken updates, as the company wanted to provide users with a more seamless way to recover their PCs whenever a patch failed to install.

According to the original KB page, Microsoft wanted Windows 10 to automatically determine when an update fails to install, roll back, and then block the update entirely to make sure that the system was working normally just like before the update.

The company has now updated the article to explain that this feature will be part of the upcoming Windows 10 version 1903 (April 2019 Update) and that it’s already testing it with the latest preview build for participants in the Windows Insider program.

“This new feature is only available for Windows Insiders running Windows 10 Insider Preview, build 18351 or later. This version of Windows 10 has not yet been released publicly,” a disclaimer published at the top of the page reads.

Windows 10 version 1903 to launch next month

Microsoft also explains that the botched update is automatically blocked for 30 days, which the company sees as a correct timeframe to develop a fix and push it to your device.

“If the removal of these updates enables the machine to start up successfully, Windows will also prevent the removed updates from installing automatically for the next 30 days. This is intended to give Microsoft and our partners the opportunity to investigate the failure and resolve any issues. After 30 days, if the updates are still applicable, Windows will try to install them again,” it says.

The latest preview build is available for Fast ring insiders, while the stable version of Windows 10 version 1903 should go live next month.
