Version 1903 now powering half of Windows 10 devices

We’re only a couple of weeks or so away from the debut of a new Windows 10 feature update, and new statistics show that the latest stable release reached another important milestone this month.

AdDuplex says Windows 10 version 1903, also known as May 2019 Update, is currently running on 56.6% of all Windows 10 devices out there.

The main catalyst of the growth experienced by version 1903 lately is the approaching end of support for Windows 10 version 1803, which many decided to stick with in order to avoid the buggy experience in Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2019 Update).

New update just around the corner

Windows 10 version 1809, however, is currently the second release in the charts with 25% share, but AdDuplex says the majority of upgrades to version 1903 come from devices previously running the April 2018 Update.

“April 2018 Update is approaching the end of support and we can see how that has accelerated the upgrades from A18U to M19U. Almost all of 11% gained by May 2019 Update come from A18U and not from the October 18 Update. Around 90,000 Windows 10 PCs were surveyed,” AdDuplex explains.

“May 2019 Update is on more than half of PCs now and, with April 2018 Update on the way out, we are now back to a familiar situation of the last two releases running on most of the PCs out there. This is likely to change again next month.”

Windows 10 version 1803 will be retired on November 12 for Home and Pro SKUs, and only Enterprise and Education releases will continue to be serviced going forward.

The upgrade trend is expected to continue, however most users are expected to skip Windows 10 version 1809 altogether and upgrade their devices to the latest feature update (either version 1903 or the upcoming November 2019 Update).
