14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 version 1903, or the May 2019 Update, has become the top version of the operating system on the market, according to new data provided by AdDuplex for the month of September.
Windows 10 May 2019 Update runs on 45.5% of the Windows 10 devices out there, while Windows 10 version 1809, or the October 2018 Update, is the runner-up with 25.5%.
Windows 10 April 2018 Update, or version 1803, which until recently was the leading version, is now third in terms of usage with just 24.1% of the Windows 10 market.
Windows 10 version 1803 will be discontinued in the fall of this year.
The October update fiasco
According to AdDuplex, Windows 10 May 2019 Update added more than 10% to its usage share in the last month, and this can only be good news for Microsoft, especially after the October fiasco.
Windows 10 version 1809, which is considered the buggiest feature update so far, was published in early October but pulled only a few days later due to a major bug possibly causing the removal of user files stored in libraries. The update was republished nearly a month later, but once again with several issues that significantly affected the experience overall.
The adoption of Windows 10 version 1809 thus lagged behind the one of its predecessors, with a substantial number of users simply choosing to wait in order to avoid having to struggle with all these bugs. Many decided to skip the October update altogether, and this made Windows 10 version 1903 a highly anticipated release.
By the looks of things, the May 2019 Update did help Microsoft get over the version 1809 fiasco, and I expect this latest release to keep growing in adoption stats in the coming month as it becomes available for more devices.
