New cumulative update released by Microsoft today

Microsoft has rolled out a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) as it continues working on fixing issues and improving the general performance of the operating system.

Cumulative update KB4467681 comes with a plethora of changes, and the full changelog is embedded into the box below.

But at the same time, there are several bug fixes that are worth highlighting and which may impact the experience in Windows 10 for many users.

For example, it’s been reported that the software keyboard goes away on some devices with touch input when trying to connect a Wi-Fi network. Microsoft says this only happened when doing this from a UWP application and only affects systems that do not have a physical keyboard.

Surprisingly, Microsoft claims this bug is exclusive to the Creators Update (version 1703), but the fix is also included in the cumulative update for Fall Creators Update.

Enterprise-specific improvements

There are also changes that might be more important for enterprises rather than for home users, including for Internet Explorer. As you probably know already, Windows 10 comes with a new default browser called Microsoft Edge, but Internet Explorer is still getting security updates as many enterprises use it internally for their own apps and services.

Today’s cumulative update thus introduces a fix for Internet Explorer issues experienced with ActiveX controls, also used mostly on corporate computers. The software giant explains:

“Addresses an issue that blocks ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer on 64-bit systems. This occurs when using Windows Defender Application Control and creating a policy that allows all ActiveX controls to run in Internet Explorer.”

There are two known issues in this cumulative update, both of them surviving from the previous release. One impacts .NET Framework, while the other one hides the seek bar in Windows Media Player.
