14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has re-opened the Skip Ahead ring of the Windows Insider program, allowing users to register in order to try out preview builds of Windows 10 Redstone 6 ahead of everyone else.
The Skip Ahead ring was originally reset last week when Microsoft shipped Windows 10 build 17713, as Microsoft wanted to kick out inactive systems.
Skip Ahead is available only for a limited set of insiders, so inactive devices would just limit its purpose, as feedback for these early builds is critical given that they’re typically released in their early days.
“Our goal by resetting Skip Ahead is to allow Insiders who previously missed being able to opt-in to be able to do so as well as clear out some PCs that haven’t been active. Skip Ahead will remain capped with a limit and once that limit has been met, Insiders will no longer be able to opt-in,” Dona Sarkar, chief of the Windows Insider program, said last week when the Skip Ahead ring was reset.
First Windows 10 Redstone 6 build compiled internally
What’s important to know is that everyone needs to re-enroll in the Skip Ahead ring, regardless of whether they’ve been part of it before or not. In other words, even if you were previously in the Skip Ahead ring, you still need to register now that it’s open once again.
To do this, head over to Settings > Update & security > Windows Insider Program and in the What kind of content would you like to receive? section select the option that reads Skip ahead to the next Windows release. Former Skip Ahead insiders who do not enroll in the new ring will continue to get builds as part of the Fast channel.
There are no details as to when the first Redstone 6 build could be shipped to insiders, but given that the first build has already been compiled internally, it shouldn’t take too long before a release happens.
