Look how easy it is to build the UAC dialog interface

Windows 10 comes with a generally improved look, although we all know that it’s not entirely everyone’s cup of tea, especially because of the fully flat interface that doesn’t align with the Aero design that all users seemed to love.

And the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update goes even one step further in this direction and changes the UI of the User Account Control screen, bringing it in line with the rest of the operating system.

Opinions on how it looks have been mixed so far, with some people saying that Microsoft wasn’t actually interested in making these dialogs look good, but rather focused on making them work correctly.

But as far as the interface is concerned, reddit user saltysamon has decided to do a little experiment and show how easy it actually is to create the UAC interface in nothing else than Paint, Microsoft’s own old-school drawing app that’s been around for so long.

Designed in just 10 minutes

And it turns out that it’s not at all difficult because, as he puts it, 10 minutes were enough to create the exact same dialog - and you can see the whole “designing” process in the video below.

Without a doubt, it was clearly just a matter of time until jokes like the ones below showed up (also posted on reddit in the same discussion as the said video):

“Hello, I'm a totally legitimate Microsoft employment director, and I want you to work as a lead designer in our studio,” said one reddit user. “Any age restrictions? I have a 5-year-old son who is very good with crayons. Overqualified maybe?” another one replied.

Certainly, this UAC screen does its job just like the one before it, but there still are users who expected more in terms of design. It remains to be seen if Microsoft wants to change anything in this regard in the future, but with the next Windows 10 update coming in spring 2017, the current design will be around for a while.
