Microsoft announces new timing for Media Player bugfix

This month’s Patch Tuesday will come with quite a long list of improvements for Windows 10 devices, and in addition to fixes for the way too many bugs in version 1809, Microsoft is also getting ready to address a glitch in Windows Media Player.

If you’ve been following Microsoft news closely in the last few weeks, the cumulative updates that the software giant rolled out in November introduced an issue that made the seek bar disappear in Windows Media Player.

And while Microsoft originally said that a workaround was in the works, an update to the official KB page of each affected Windows 10 version indicates that a fix is projected to go live in mid-December.

All versions of Windows 10 are affected by this Media Player bug, according to Microsoft itself.

“After installing this update, users may not be able to use the Seek Bar in Windows Media Player when playing specific files. This issue does not affect normal playback,” Microsoft says.

“Microsoft is working on a resolution and estimates a solution will be available mid-December 2018.”

Getting ready for Patch Tuesday

Patch Tuesday takes place this month on December 11, so the fix should be here in less than a week. Most likely, it’ll be included in the other cumulative updates rolling out to Windows 10 devices on Patch Tuesday, and which are obviously expected to include both security and non-security improvements.

The rollout will also bring bugfixes to Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update), as Microsoft has been testing several of them as part of the Windows Insider program.

Version 1809 was originally published on October 2 for users worldwide, but was later pulled after Microsoft discovered a critical bug that removed users’ files stored in libraries. The update was re-released in November and is now gradually shipped to devices.
