Windows 11 has recently reached the broad availability phase, with the operating system now available for all eligible devices.

As a result, Windows 11 can now be installed on any computer that meets the updated system requirements, so it’s really not a surprise that its adoption is currently on the rise.

New statistics provided by Valve for its Steam platform shows that Windows 11 is growing bigger among gamers as well, but at the same time, Windows 10 continues to be the preferred choice for the vast majority of users.

More specifically, Windows 10 64-bit is currently powering no more, no less than 71.26 percent of the devices where Steam is installed. This data, however, shows a drop of 2.63 percent, obviously as a result of more devices being upgraded to Windows 11.

Windows running on over 96 percent of Steam devices

When it comes to Windows 11 itself, it’s pretty clear the adoption of this OS is growing, and according to Valve, it has increased 1.64 percent only last month. Windows 11 is therefore running on 21.23 percent of the Windows computers where Steam is installed.

The third in the charts is the 64-bit version of Windows 7, but unsurprising, this old operating system controls only a very small device share. This is because Windows 7 no longer receives updates since January 2020. According to Valve data, Windows is installed on a little over 3 percent of the devices, but more surprising is that its share increased by 0.60 percent last month.

As far as non-Windows platforms are concerned, macOS is the runner-up with 2.45 percent, up 0.25 percent from the previous month. The increase is mostly the result of macOS 12.4, which managed to become the leading version in the macOS gaming world with a Steam share of 0.76 percent last month.
