14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft announced back in 2017 that a Control Center would be coming to Windows 10, and now a screenshot shows that the Redstone 5 update due in the fall could finally bring it to users.
The Control Center is essentially a new place on Windows 10 that would be accessible with a taskbar icon and allowing users to easily enable features like network connectivity, airplane mode, Night light, mobile hotspot, and battery saver.
All these options are now available in the Action Center, but with a Control Center, Microsoft wants to make everything more straightforward, especially because these buttons would be entirely separated from notifications.
Work on the Control Central presumably started last year, and while the current insider builds do not include it, a recent finding indicates that it shouldn’t take too long before the new feature makes its debut in preview builds.
Possible launch in Redstone 5
WL has come across a screenshot for a Microsoft app called Screen Sketch which shows the Control Center placed on the taskbar.
The little gear icon in the taskbar is believed to provide access to this Control Center, though at this point, it’s not yet confirmed if the screenshot is recent or has been made on a system running an earlier internal build of Windows 10. Of course, there’s always a chance that this is just a mockup, though it’d be weird for Microsoft to create a render with a feature that’s not yet available.
If the Control Center is indeed in the works, it should make its debut for insiders sometimes soon, as Microsoft needs to finalize it before the Redstone 5 update gets the go-ahead.
As per the company’s release schedule, Redstone 5 is expected to be finalized sometime in September, while the public rollout would begin in October. This means Microsoft still has several months to get the Control Center right ahead of the fall release.
