New implementation already available in preview builds

Windows 10 Redstone 2 will certainly bring plenty of new features, but Microsoft is also working on adding smaller refinements to the operating system that will improve usability and user experience.

And the recently released Windows 10 build 14915 comes with a hint of such a change, as Microsoft is currently working on overhauling the Windows update history page with a more organized layout.

In the stable version of Windows 10, which retail users are having right now, all updates are displayed together in the Update history screen in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced options > View your update history, but this could change with the arrival of Redstone 2.

Twitter user @callum90ish has spotted a small tweak in build 14915, with Windows update history page now displaying installed updates in separate groups, such as quality updates, driver updates, and other updates. Users can hide any category they want and thus display only the updates that are more important to them.

For the moment, it appears that this screen is not yet available to all users, so Microsoft is most likely just experimenting with new layouts, but Redstone 2 is very likely to bring some changes in this regard and feature a redesigned Windows update history page.

More new features on their way

Windows 10 Redstone is projected to launch in the spring of 2017 with many more improvements, and the upcoming builds released to insiders should provide us with hints about what’s to come.

For example, build 14915 also includes references to a blue light filter that would bring functionality similar to f.lux, a famous application that’s already available on most platforms. Apple has already integrated such features on the iPhone as Night Shift, and Microsoft could follow the same strategy and bring it to the desktop and even on mobile phones with the arrival of Redstone 2.

Certainly, more on all of these will emerge in the coming months, so it’s going to be a very interesting adventure for users enrolled in the Insider program.
