14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 is slowly increasing to become the world’s number one operating system, and as we get closer to the end-of-support date for Windows 7, the chances of this happening are getting bigger.
Most recently, Microsoft revealed that Windows 10 was running on more than half of commercial PCs across the world, as the OS is growing bigger in the enterprise.
Frank X. Shaw, lead communications for Microsoft, said in a series of tweets during Microsoft’s earnings report this morning that Windows 10 keeps gaining traction “as the most secure and productive OS.”
He further revealed that Microsoft Teams is being used by 329,000 organizations, including 87 of the Fortune 100, and the company expects Dynamics to deliver $2.5 billion in revenue this year.
Windows 10 for consumers
In the meantime, Windows 10 also keeps growing in the consumer market, and recent data for the month of September provided by NetMarketShare indicated that taking over the leading place on the PC is just a matter of time.
Windows 7 is currently the top choice for desktop users worldwide, as the 2009 operating system leads the pack with a 40.88 percent share. However, Windows 10 is getting closer and closer, and last month it was running on 37.44 percent of the PCs out there.
Microsoft originally wanted to bring Windows 10 on 1 billion devices in two to three years after launch, but the company later admitted that it would take more time for this threshold to be reached. The latest data provided by the software giant indicated that Windows 7 was running on 700 million devices across the world.
The updates that Microsoft ships for Windows 10, and which come with improvements for both consumers and enterprises, are supposed to speed up adoption of the OS. The company launches two different OS feature updates every year, and the next one is projected to go live in the spring of 2019.
