New Windows 10 feature update is expected in a few weeks

Microsoft has already finalized the next Windows 10 feature update, and it’s now just a matter of time until the RTM build is pushed to production devices as well.

And while we all know that the rollout is projected to start sometime this month, no specifics are available for the time being.

Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet previously said that the Windows 10 May 2020 Update GA (General Availability) was planned for May 12, but it now looks like this schedule has changed.

More specifically, the day when the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, or version 2004, could go live is May 28, as Microsoft has decided to push back the release for approximately two weeks due to a zero-day vulnerability in the operating system.

While specifics aren’t available for now, it’s believed Microsoft wants everything to be as flawless as possible, so its goal is to resolve the known issues before the RTM build is sent to OEMs. In other words, further refinements would be made under the hood before OEMs receive the final May 2020 Update image and then the rollout to production devices officially kicks off.

As Mary Jo Foley explains, a delay wouldn’t necessarily be surprising given the current health crisis happening worldwide. With many people still working from home, the development and bug testing sometimes advances much slower than before, and there’s a chance Windows 10 could be impacted as well.

For now, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the release date of Windows 10 May 2020 Update, but if you want to try out it out, it’s enough to enroll in the Windows Insider program in the Release Preview ring. Microsoft has already shipped the final build to users in this channel in April.
