Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) remains the number one Windows 10 version out there, as the rollout of the October 2018 Update (version 1809) is still under way.

As one of the supported Windows 10 versions, the April update is getting a cumulative update today as part of Microsoft’s monthly Patch Tuesday cycle.

The update in question is KB4487017, which users on the April 2018 Update can install right now from Windows Update and increase the OS build number to 17134.590.

The first thing you should know is that cumulative update goes live on a Patch Tuesday, which is Microsoft’s security patching cycle. In other words, KB4487017 is specifically supposed to resolve vulnerabilities in the operating system and the rest of the components, including the Windows kernel, the Windows graphics component, and the Windows Scripting engine.

Browser security patches

Microsoft’s browsers are also getting patched in February, with improvements for both Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. Although it’s being switched to the Chromium engine, Microsoft Edge is still offered as the default browser in Windows 10, so users need to keep it fully up-to-date to make sure all known vulnerabilities are fixed.

When it comes to non-security improvements, you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump, but there are several of them worth highlighting.

For example, Microsoft says that it resolved an issue preventing Microsoft Edge from connecting to sites using the IP address, as well as the bug hitting some Microsoft Access files.

"Addresses an issue that may prevent applications that use a Microsoft Jet database with the Microsoft Access 97 file format from opening. This issue occurs if the database has column names greater than 32 characters. The database fails to open with the error, “Unrecognized Database Format”," the changelog reads.

Right now, KB4487017 doesn’t seem to cause any issues on Windows 10 devices, but it’s just the beginning of the rollout and it takes a while until we can confirm whether the experience with the update is flawless or not.
