14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has released a Windows 10 cumulative update for Slow ring insiders running October 2018 Update preview build 17744.
KB4462775 includes only two key changes and bumps the OS build number to version 17744.1004 – to check your OS version, click the Start menu and type winver.
This new cumulative update fixes a reliability issue causing restart warnings not be displayed for user-scheduled update restarts, according to the official changelog.
And additionally, it also includes a security configuration and analysis snap-in for Microsoft Management Console, which isn’t listing System Services.
New update packaging system for reduced size
Windows 10 cumulative update KB4462775 is being distributed using Microsoft’s new packaging system, which was announced in August and will be officially adopted with the release of the October 2018 Update.
The updates relying on this system are distributed via Windows Update and WSUS as CAB and MSU files, with the latter extension to be used for the Microsoft Update Catalog.
According to Microsoft, these updates should be smaller in size, redistributable, and simpler to manage.
“Since this new quality update package will be redistributable, organizations that utilize express updates via WSUS, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), or a third-party management solution that supports express updates will experience enormous savings in network bandwidth and cache size on their distribution points or update servers. In addition, devices with the next major version of Windows 10 will be 40% more efficient,” Microsoft says.
While this new update is specifically aimed at users running preview builds of the October 2018 Update, all the other Windows 10 versions will get a series of patches tomorrow as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle.
The release will include security and non-security fixes. Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 will also be provided with monthly rollups that will include such improvements.
