Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (version 1709) is one of the releases that received cumulative updates this month as part of the July 2018 Patch Tuesday cycle.

Cumulative update KB4338825 bumps the version number to build 16299.547 and it includes security and non-security improvements, with two known issues also confirmed by Microsoft.

First and foremost, this update fixes security vulnerabilities in a series of Windows 10 components, like Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers, Microsoft scripting engine, Windows apps, the Windows kernel, and Windows graphics.

Internet Explorer is also getting some other refinements, including a bugfix for form submissions not working as expected, and so is Google Chrome which should now run correctly on Cobalt devices.

Microsoft says that this cumulative update addresses an issue that causes DNS requests to disregard proxy configurations in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge, as well as refinements to time zone information.

Known issues

As said, there are two known issues in this cumulative update, and both of them cause non-English platforms to fail to display some strings correctly, instead using English to render them.

“Some non-English platforms may display the following string in English instead of the localized language: ‘Reading scheduled jobs from file is not supported in this language mode.’ This error appears when you try to read the scheduled jobs you've created and Device Guard is enabled,” Microsoft explains, adding that a fix is already in the works and it should be released at a later time to users.

By the looks of things, cumulative update KB4338825 installs correctly on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and at the time of writing this article, there are no reports of other issues. This means Microsoft might have managed to resolve the troublesome experience with cumulative updates, as this month’s rollout has so far advanced pretty smoothly.
