This month’s Patch Tuesday cycle brings cumulative updates for all Windows 10 versions, including for the Fall Creators Update, also known as version 1709.

If for some reason you haven’t updated to the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, your system should be getting cumulative update KB4284819, which just as expected, brings security and non-security improvements to your computer.

Before anything else, it’s worth noting that this update pushes the OS version to build number 16299.492, which is the newest you can get at the moment. If you install this new release, your computer is brought completely up-to-date. This is actually the purpose of cumulative updates – installing the latest one brings all fixes and patches to your system, as it includes all previously released improvements.

Cumulative update KB4284819 release notes

First and foremost, Windows 10 cumulative update KB4284819 resolves security vulnerabilities in Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer browsers. If you’re using one of these two browsers, you better install this update as soon as possible.

Then, there are also security patches for the Scripting engine, the Windows Kernel, and other OS components. Similar fixes are also available in the other Windows 10 cumulative updates shipped today.

When it comes to non-security refinements, here’s what you’re going to get (for the full changelog, check out the box after the jump).

This update fixes a bug causing Edge to generate incorrect responses to XML requests, and glitches in Internet Explorer that prevents the browser from using an updated version of location services. There are also additional mitigations for the Meltdown and Spectre bugs disclosed in early January.

At this point, this cumulative update appears to install correctly on all systems, but as we know, this is just the beginning of the rollout and everything can change as more users get it.
