A new build is now live for the Dev channel

Microsoft has just released Windows 10 build 20226 to users in the Dev channel in the Windows Insider program.

There’s just one major change in this new preview build, as Microsoft has included storage health monitoring to protect user data.

More specifically, Windows 10 users will now be provided with a notification that displays a message like “a storage device may be at risk of failure and requires your attention” whenever the operating system determines there’s a chance of drive failure.

“Attempting to recover data after drive failure is both frustrating and expensive. This feature is designed to detect hardware abnormalities for NVMe SSDs and notify users with enough time to act. It is strongly recommended that users immediately back up their data after receiving a notification,” Microsoft explains.

“Clicking on the notification or navigating to the drive properties page in Storage Settings (Settings -> System -> Storage -> Manage disks and volumes -> Properties) will provide additional details.”

More bug fixes

Other than that, this new release is all about improvements and bug fixes, and you can check out the full changelog in the box after the jump.

Worth highlighting, however, is a change concerning theme syncing, as Microsoft says this feature will be off by default in the operating system.

“We’re starting to roll out a change that will turn off theme syncing. As part of that, you will no longer see “Theme” as an option in Sync your settings, and changes made to your background will not sync across device. If you have been using theme synchronization, when setting up a new PC or account there will be a one-time download of the last saved synchronized desktop background to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WallpaperBackup if you need to access it,” the software giant says.

The new build is available today in the Dev channel and can be downloaded from Windows Update.
