While all eyes are on the upcoming May 2019 Update, Microsoft keeps working on future updates for Windows 10 as well, including the April 2020 Update.

The company today rolled out a new preview build for Fast ring insiders – Skip Ahead and Fast rings have been merged in April, so both are now provided with 20H1 preview builds.

Windows 10 build 18890 doesn’t come with any new features, but instead it includes a bunch of fixes and performance improvements which you can read in full in the box after the jump.

One particular fix that’s worth highlighting concerns issues with cumulative updates, as explained by Microsoft.

“We fixed an issue that could result in cumulative updates potentially failing with error 0x800f0982 if a language pack update was happening at the same time,” the software giant explains.

Known issues in this build

When it comes to the known issues in this build, Microsoft notes that Tamper Protection might be turned off after installing this build and users need to manually enable it once again in the OS. Furthermore, there’s a glitch that could cause mouse wheels or touchpads to stop working in this build.

“Scrolling with the mouse wheel or touchpad may stop working in certain places after upgrading. If you experience this, going to Settings > Devices > Mouse, and changing one of the settings (for example, Choose how many lines to scroll each time) should resolve it until shutdown or reboot,” the company explains.

Needless to say, this build is still a work in progress, so some features might not work exactly as expected.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is now giving the finishing touches to Windows 10 May 2019 Update, whose rollout should kick off later this month. This update is already in the Release Preview ring, and Microsoft refines its performance with cumulative updates for insiders.
