Microsoft said to force upgrade on Windows 10 Pro systems

Windows 10 April 2018 Update is reportedly being forced on systems that were specifically configured to block the upgrade until Microsoft flags the OS feature update as ready for the Semi-Annual Channel, originally known as Current Branch for Business.

The option to defer updates is available in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise SKUs and allows customers to stay away from new updates until Microsoft specifically marks them as enterprise-ready.

But according to a report from CW, Windows 10 April 2018 Update is now being offered to systems enrolled in the Semi-Annual Channel for the reason that’s not yet known. There’s obviously no chance the April 2018 Update is ready for business given that the rollout started only early this week and the performance has been far from flawless.

As the cited source says, this wouldn’t be the first time such a thing happens, after customers whose systems were configured to defer updates were offered Windows 10 Fall Creators Update three times in a row in November 2017, January 2018, and March 2018.

It’s not exactly known what’s happening here and forcing business computers to upgrade to the latest release could easily backfire, especially given how buggy Windows 10 April 2018 Update has proved to be so far. We have reached out to Microsoft for more information in this regard and will update the article if we receive an answer.

Users running Windows 10 Home cannot configure their systems to block the update, but on the other hand, the April 2018 Update is now being rolled out in stages, so with a little luck, they might not be offered the new version too soon.

But on the other hand, those who are eager to upgrade to the latest version can do it anyway with a manual download, though it goes without saying that given the number of bugs reported lately, this would really be a risky choice.
