Users report issues when trying to install the new update

While Microsoft will push Windows 10 April 2018 Update to the first wave of systems on May 8, the new OS feature update is already up for grabs, and needless to say, many rushed to install it.

As compared to the previous Windows 10 updates, version 1803 can also be manually installed from Windows Update, and the only thing users have to do is manually check for updates. The process is then completed automatically, just like in the case of any other updates for Windows.

However, it seems that this process isn’t as smoothly as expected in the case of some users, as reports posted online, especially on Microsoft’s Community forums, seem to indicate several issues experienced when trying to install the update.

Botched update? Not yet

A number of users claim the Windows 10 April 2018 Update freezes during the installation process and hangs at various points before completion. There are several posts on the Community forums (here, here, and here), and users explain the Internet connection doesn’t drop, there’s enough free space on the hard drives, and security solutions are configured to allow updates.

While these posts might indicate there are indeed issues when installing the April 2018 Update, this is without a doubt a big might.

The process of downloading and installing a new OS feature update takes time, despite Microsoft struggling to make everything faster and smoother, and even though many users think it gets stuck, updating may actually continue in the background.

Furthermore, downloading such a large update could take more time than expected due to network issues and inconsistent transfer speeds, and as a result, the progress percentage could also increase slower, making some believe it’s freezing.

And last but not least, Windows 10 April 2018 Update failing to download or install could be an issue caused by insufficient storage space, so make sure there’s enough free storage before beginning the process.
