Issue reportedly inherited from Fall Creators Update

It’s no secret that Windows 10 April 2018 Update is kind of buggy, and many wonder how come Microsoft left so many issues unresolved, but here’s something that was actually inherited from the previous release and somehow not patched in this build.

Users are complaining on the Microsoft Community forums that some of their taskbar icons aren’t correctly displayed in Windows 10 April 2018 Update due to a bug that previously existed in the Fall Creators Update as well.

For some reason, clicking the Show hidden icon buttons opens an overlay that’s displayed behind the taskbar itself, so only a limited number of icons are actually shown. I’ve personally encountered this problem in the Fall Creators Update, but there’s no sign of it after upgrading to the April 2018 Update.

Several users, however, have confirmed the existence of this problem on their systems, explaining that the only way to see all their icons is actually enable them all on the taskbar.

Rebooting and adjusting DPI settings to 100% could fix the bug

For the time being, rebooting the system appears to be the fastest workaround, only that this fixes the problem just temporarily.

Needless to say, users are becoming increasingly frustrated with the number of issues in Windows 10 April 2018 Update, especially because it takes too much time for Microsoft to address them.

“I have the exact same problem, looking for days now to fix it but no luck. In the 1709 build of Windows 10 no problem at all, in 1803 my notifications are hiding apps like Steam/ Discord behind my taskbar. After i switch from any DPI scaling the problems fixed for a little while,” one Windows 10 April 2018 Update adopter explains.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating the issue and said that more information would be provided when and if the cause of the problem is discovered.
