A second 2019 update for Windows 10 is on its way

Microsoft is still working on a second Windows 10 feature update for 2019, according to people familiar with the matter.

With Windows 10 May 2019 Update just around the corner and expected to go live later this month and Microsoft already working on the April 2020 update (20H1), many have been wondering whether the software giant plans to skip the typical fall feature update for Windows 10.

Microsoft typically rolls out two feature updates for Windows 10, one in the spring and a second one in the fall. But with the fall of 2019 (19H2) update nowhere to be seen right now, it was believed that this release could eventually be skipped altogether.

Twitter user WalkingCat, who has until now provided us with several accurate Microsoft scoops, said recently that “19H2 is nowhere to be seen [and] essentially not exists.” Indeed, no evidence of Windows 10 19H2 has been discovered, despite Microsoft suggesting that a second feature update is coming this year.

19H2 still coming

Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley, however, says Windows 10 19H2 is still a work in progress and Microsoft has no intention to cancel it. However, it will be a “little more than a service pack,” which means that we shouldn’t expect any major improvements, with the focus to be put on fixes and improvements.

“They are definitely not skipping 19H2. But it will basically be little more than a service pack update to 19H1, from what I've heard,” Foley explained. “The 19H2 update should be even smaller and less significant than other feature releases to date,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Microsoft remains tight-lipped on the next-next feature update for Windows 10, and the company just seems to be putting a lot of effort into the 20H1 update for now. Preview builds of 19H2 should begin rolling out to insiders next month after the May update goes live for production devices.
