The feature is currently in the beta testing stage

The experience with WhatsApp is supposed to get a lot more refined on iPhone and Android, as the Facebook-owned company is working on all kinds of improvements for its messaging client.

One of the latest ideas, and which has already made its way to the beta builds available for testers, including a more polished notification that includes the profile photos of the contacts who messaged you.

In other words, if someone sends you a new message on WhatsApp, the notification showing up on your mobile device will include their profile photo as well.

This isn’t such a breaking improvement, but it’s certainly something that makes the experience overall feel more polished and modern. WABetaInfo, who’s been keeping track of all improvements coming in the future WhatsApp updates, claims the feature is currently part of the latest beta build for iOS.

Most likely, it will be included in the Android version as well, though, at this point, there’s no ETA as to when the public rollout could start to devices out there.

Currently only available to select beta users

At this point, however, even the rollout to beta devices is happening in stages. The cited source claims not all testers are currently seeing the new notifications, but expect the availability to be gradually expanded in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, it’s pretty clear that WhatsApp is focused a lot more on general polishing of the app, and without a doubt, this can only be good news especially given the competition in this category is getting fiercer.

The adoption of Signal and Telegram has skyrocketed lately, especially after the privacy concerns raised by a series of WhatsApp updates introduced last year, so all these refinements could eventually convince more people to stick with the app regardless of the platform they use.
