New feature currently in the works, it seems

We’ve known for a while that WhatsApp was working on a way to make it easier for users to move their chats from Android to iPhone, but now it looks like this feature is nearing its launch.

WABetaInfo has discovered that the latest beta version of the messaging app comes with this option to easily transfer the existing chats from Android to iPhone, therefore making the switch between the two platforms much more straightforward and convenient.

Moving the conversation history from one platform to another is already possible thanks to third-party software or, in some cases, to features developed by WhatsApp itself.

For example, you can already transfer the chat history from an iPhone to a Samsung device, but at the same time, if you buy a new Pixel, Google also allows you to do the same thing.

Native feature

WhatsApp, however, wants to make the whole thing natively, so the application will get a new feature to transfer the chats without the need for any other gimmicks.

At this point, it’s not yet clear when exactly the whole thing is supposed to go live for all users, but right now, the feature is still in the beta stage, likely to launch later this year.

Based on the current implementation, the chat migration feature works as conveniently as you’d expect it to work. When launching WhatsApp, the app lets you import the chat history, but of course, you just need to give your permission before the process starts.

Of course, WhatsApp has remained completely tight-lipped on this new feature so far, though everybody knew it was already in development. For the time being, you’d better not hold your breath for it, as WhatsApp first needs to make sure everything works as expected and only then start the global rollout.
