Future update to add support for stickers on iOS and Android

WhatsApp is projected to receive support for stickers in a future update, according to a recent finding, and the feature will arrive on both Android and iOS.

WABetaInfo has discovered new FAQ pages on WhatsApp’s website that detail the process of embedding stickers within a conversation.

The new support articles (here and here for Android and iOS, respectively) indicate that stickers would first need to be downloaded before used within conversations. Stickers will be published on the Google Play Store, and this is an indication that in addition to an official pack that WhatsApp may release, third-party developers would also be allowed to create their own.

Installing a sticker pack from the Google Play store would add it to a dedicated sticker menu within the app, and sending a sticker in a conversation works the same way as for emoji.

The process overall looks to be similar to what iPhone users are being provided with on iMessage, Apple’s own messaging platform that already offers stickers.

Other major features on their way

There is no ETA as to when this feature could go live for Android and iOS, but given that the FAQ pages have already been prepared, there’s a chance a big update is just around the corner.

WhatsApp has recently released swipe-right-to-reply support for the Android app, while also rolling out a new contextual menu for the iOS version.

There are several other major features in the works right now, including a dark theme. However, according to the most recent reports, this dark theme may be exclusive to iPhone for a limited time, as WhatsApp might not be working on a similar update for Android just yet.

We’ll let you know when these new features become available to all, and for the time being just make sure that you are running the latest version of the app to get all the available improvements.
