A new version of WhatsApp is now available for download with major improvements, including support for the iPhone XS Max and a new contextual menu in chats.

The new version of the app is 2.18.100 and it comes with three different improvements, as revealed in the release notes published on the App Store.

First and foremost, there’s support for consecutive Voice Messages that will now play in sequence, meaning that you no longer have to press play for each of the messages you receive. This is supposed to provide a more seamless chatting experience, especially when voice messages are being used as the main conversation method.

Then, there’s support for iPhone XS Max, the new model that was unveiled last month and which comes with a 6.5-inch OLED screen. The app should now be rendered correctly on the bigger screen after installing this new update.

And last but not least, there’s a new contextual menu displayed in conversations. Previously, whenever you long-pressed a message, a horizontal menu showed up to provide you with options such as reply, info, and forward.

Dark mode coming

Beginning with this version, there’s a new vertical design that displays the same options while also masking the background, making everything not only look modern, but also more straightforward.

This design isn’t yet available on Android and there’s no indication as to whether it could launch anytime soon.

At the same time, WABetaInfo has discovered that this latest version comes with code hinting at a dark mode. We’ve known for a while that such an update is on its way, and now it looks like WhatsApp has started working on the dark mode with a potential release sometime soon in a new update.

No details are available as to when it could get the green light, but for the time being, you can try out the latest improvements by downloading the said version from the App Store.
