Facebook-owned WhatsApp has recently announced a series of improvements coming not only to the mobile apps but also to the desktop and web clients as part of a major overhaul that the company is planning to release over the next few weeks.

First and foremost, one of the most notable additions concerns animated stickers. As many people know already, stickers are growing in popularity, and WhatsApp itself tries to bring as many as possible to its mobile clients.

And while stickers are already available in WhatsApp, the company wants an animated version to be available as well.

“Stickers are one of the fastest growing ways people communicate on WhatsApp, with billions sent every day. We are rolling out new animated sticker packs that are even more fun and expressive,” the Facebook company explains.

Group video call improvements

Furthermore, WhatsApp is adding QR codes that will make it easier to add someone to the contact list and start chatting on the service. Basically, every user will be allowed to generate a QR code which can be scanned by someone else to quickly add their information to contacts.

WhatsApp says it’s also bringing a dark mode to the desktop client and on WhatsApp Web – the dark theme is already available on Android and iOS.

And last but not least, WhatsApp will be updated with a series of improvements for group video calls.

“With now up to 8 people on a video call, we’ve made it easier to focus on whoever you want by letting you press and hold to maximize a participant's video to full screen. We also added a video icon in group chats of 8 or less, so you can easily start a group video call with 1-tap,” WhatsApp explains.

All these features will go live gradually in the coming weeks to everyone.
