Microsoft has just released a new Windows 11 cumulative update, though this time it’s only a servicing update specifically aimed at the Dev channel.

More specifically, Microsoft has shipped a new update whose role is to help test the servicing pipeline for builds in the Dev channel, so while your computer will be offered the update (obviously if you’re part of the Windows Insider program), you won’t be getting any new features or improvements.

The new update lands as KB5016904, and it increases the OS build number to 25163.1010.

“We are starting to roll out Cumulative Update Build 25163.1010 (KB5016904). This update does not include anything new and is designed to test our servicing pipeline for builds in the Dev Channel,” Microsoft says.

What’s new in Windows 11 build 25163

Given it’s aimed at users in the Dev channel, this update is specifically supposed to be installed on computers where Windows 11 build 25163 is already running.

If you’re part of the Dev channel, this is the most recent preview build, and it comes with several notable new features, including a new taskbar overflow that makes it easier to work with multiple apps on the desktop.

“We’re reintroducing taskbar overflow, with a newly designed experience for Windows 11. This taskbar experience has been thoughtfully crafted to offer you a more productive switching and launching experience when space is constrained. Your taskbar will automatically transition into this new overflow state when it has hit its maximum capacity. In this state, taskbar will offer an entry point to an overflow menu that allows you to view all your overflowed apps in one space,” Microsoft explained.

In case you’re curious when this new taskbar overflow could go live for all users, no ETA is available just yet, but it could happen at some point next year.
