The December 2019 Patch Tuesday rollout also includes a new cumulative update for Windows 10 version 1903 and Windows 10 version 1909.

The two Windows 10 releases share the same cumulative update because they are based on a common core operating system and identical set of system files. The only difference between them is that minor new features are added in Windows 10 version 1909, but they are activated by Microsoft with an enablement package shipped separately.

The new cumulative update that is available today for the two Windows 10 versions is KB4530684, and it increases the OS build number to 18362.535 for Windows 10 version 1903 and 18363.535 for Windows 10 version 1909.

The changelog

There are three improvements in this cumulative update, and the most obvious one is the pack of security fixes for the operating system. KB4530684 brings security updates to Windows Virtualization, Windows Kernel, the Microsoft Scripting Engine, and Windows Server.

Then, Microsoft says this cumulative update resolves error 0x3B in cldflt.sys that is only experienced on some devices, while also bringing a fix for a problem affecting local user accounts. The company explains:

“Addresses an issue that might prevent you from creating a local user account using the Input Method Editor (IME) for Chinese, Japanese, or Korean languages. This issue occurs when setting up a new Windows device during the Out of Box Experience (OOBE).”

The good news is that this new cumulative update doesn’t cause any issues, or at least, that’s what Microsoft says in the official KB page. In other words, KB4530684 should install correctly on the majority of devices, albeit as some learned the hard way, it could take a while until the first problems start making the rounds.

For now, we’re not aware of any issues experienced with this cumulative update.
