Microsoft rolled out new cumulative updates for Windows 10 today, and version 1803, also known as April 2018 Update, is getting its own pack of improvements.

Users running this version of Windows 10 can thus download cumulative update KB4489894, which comes with a pretty huge changelog, also embedded at the end of the article.

First and foremost, after installing this cumulative update, the Windows 10 build number should be increased to 17134.677, and you can check this by typing winver in the Start menu.

There are lots of bug fixes, including one aimed at an issue blocking Microsoft Office updates from downloading from the Microsoft Store. Additionally, this update comes with updated time zone information for several locations, including Buenos Aires, Argentina and Kazakhstan.

Known issues

Microsoft says it has also resolved a bug causing the laptop screen to remain black after resuming from sleep, but also a glitch affecting the lock screen. The company explains the following in the changelog:

“Addresses an issue with the Windows lock screen that prevents users from unlocking a device after multiple smart card users have used the same device. This issue occurs when you attempt to use a workstation that another user has locked.”

There are several known issues, but most of them are inherited from the previous cumulative updates and concern business and enterprise users. One particular bug that end users must be aware of hits the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

“After applying this update, a stop error occurs when attempting to start the Secure Shell (SSH) client program from Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) with agent forwarding enabled using a command line switch (ssh –A) or a configuration setting,” Microsoft explains.

The update can be downloaded right now from Windows Update, and a reboot will be required to complete the installation. The full changelog is available below.
