Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for Windows 10 as part of the January 2019 Patch Tuesday cycle, and just like expected, the October 2018 Update is getting its own improvements.

KB4480116 is aimed at devices that already run the October 2018 Update (version 1809), and it increases the OS build number to 17763.253 – you can check this by typing winver in the Start menu.

There are three different changes in this cumulative update, and you can see the release notes in full in the box after the jump

In addition to the typical security patches that include updates for Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, the Windows kernel, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and the Microsoft Scripting engine, there are also fixes for a bug hitting PowerShell remote endpoints.

One known issue in this cumulative update

Microsoft says it discovered a bug affecting session isolation, so Windows 10 cumulative update KB4480116 comes to resolve it.

“By default, PowerShell remoting only works with administrator accounts, but can be configured to work with non-administrator accounts. Starting with this release, you cannot configure PowerShell remote endpoints to work with non-administrator accounts,” Microsoft says.

There is also a known issue in this cumulative update, and Microsoft says it is working on a fix that could get the green light later this month.

The bug causes third-party applications to fail to connect to hotspots, and for the time being, there is no workaround available for Windows 10 version 1809 users.

We aren’t aware of any installation issues hitting this cumulative update, and KB4480116 installed correctly on our systems here. We’ll continue to monitor the feedback channels and let you know if any problems are reported.

In the meantime, given security fixes are part of the release, users are recommended to consider patching their devices as soon as possible.
