The app will now display estimated costs for tolled routes

Traffic and navigation app Waze has received a new update to display the estimated costs for tolled roads along your route.

The new feature is currently available in the United States and Canada for only 20 percent of the users, but the parent company says it should go live for everyone living in these two countries by July 22.

Additionally, the testing has already started for Europe, with APAC and LATAM regions to follow in the coming weeks. No ETA is available on when the feature could launch in these markets, however.

The toll prices are provided by the community, so they might not necessarily be 100 percent accurate, albeit given the large userbase that powers Waze, there’s a good chance they would come pretty close to much you have to pay when using a tolled road.

“Toll prices are estimations based on info added by the Waze community, your route & settings – they don’t replace actual prices set by the operator,” a notification displayed inside the app reads.

Feature available on Android and iOS

Waze warns that toll prices can vary due to a series of factors, as the toll company can set its own prices for a specific road. However, the feature allows users to provide prices based on select criteria, like day of the week, hour of the day, holidays, passes, and vehicle types.

Toll prices are only supposed for private cars, taxis, and motorcycles, so no information is available for buses or trucks.

“Additionally, Waze currently does not estimate toll pricing for congestion-based toll roads where prices vary depending on traffic. In these cases, users will receive a notification that the toll amount varies,” the parent company explains.

The new feature is available today for select users on Android and iOS and should roll out for everyone in the US and Canada in the coming days.
