There are companies that sit on huge franchises but don't want to use them at all, and then there's Games Workshop which is selling Warhammer rights to just about any studio that offers to make a game out of it.

That's probably one of the reasons games like Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron appear. Developed by Phosphor Games Studio, it will be released on PC and consoles in Q4 2020, although I'm thinking this should have been a mobile game or a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Anyway, Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron puts you in the shoes of an Ork flier. Described as a fast-paced aerial shooter, the game plays from a third-person perspective and supposedly features “action-packed gameplay and intuitive controls.”

Surprisingly, the game includes a campaign where players take part in a series of missions across alien worlds. The campaign has more than 20 missions, which allow players to unlock achievements to discover powerful Orky weapons and receive fighta upgrades.

Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron does away with building and crafting, as the game revolves around fighting from start to end. You'll be able to choose an Ork Clan and customize your squadron to augment your playstyle.

There are dozens of equipment specifically built for Ork Flyboys, including Dakkajets, Burna-Bommas, and Blitza-Bommas, which can be fitted with a wide range of guns, bombs, and missiles.

Interestingly enough, the game promises “fantastic voice over acting and dialog,” which should capture the grim humor of Orks in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. If this proves to be accurate, it might be one of the few reasons to play it on PC or consoles.

There's not much else to tell about Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron, just that we can't wait to see how this turns around. We'll have to wait until later this year though, so stay tuned if you think it appeals to your tastes.
