Options to move taskbar to the top and sides are must-have

Windows 11 has made its debut with a completely redesigned desktop, as the taskbar now aligns all icons, including the Start menu itself, to the center of the screen.

While people coming from older Windows might find this redesign pretty confusing, it’s part of a modern push that was started by Windows 10X and which others really love.

But on the other hand, the introduction of such an approach means Microsoft also removed options to move the taskbar to the top of the screen or to the sides in Windows 11.

And as far as users are concerned, this isn’t the right way to go. In a post in the Feedback Hub, hundreds of users call for Microsoft to add such options to Windows 11, explaining they could substantially affect the way they work on their computers.

“It makes absolutely no sense to remove this feature - that has been present in Windows since I can remember. As a person passionate about his left-sided taskbar, the lack of location setting makes Windows 11 a no-go option for me,” someone says in the Feedback Hub.

Windows 11 coming later this year

But as far as Microsoft is concerned, the new approach is actually a way to boost productivity.

“From the new Start button and taskbar to each sound, font and icon, everything was done intentionally to put you in control and bring a sense of calm and ease. We put Start at the center and made it easier to quickly find what you need. Start utilizes the power of the cloud and Microsoft 365 to show you your recent files no matter what platform or device you were viewing them on earlier, even if it was on an Android or iOS device,” it said.

Given Windows 11 is projected to land later this year, it remains to be seen if any taskbar changes are introduced, but for now, Microsoft says it’s just looking into feedback.
